Challenging Words in THE HINDU Article -

1)Belie (verb) (noun) (झुठलाना) - be-lie
Meaning -  to give a false impression of
Synonyms -  contradict, prove to be false, falsify.
Antonyms - Prove, Attest, demonstrate
Example - In an attempt to belie the vehicle’s high mileage, the car salesman turned back the speedometer on the car.

2)Emanate (verb)  (निर्गत होना) - em-uh-neyt
Meaning -  to come out from a source
Synonyms -  come out, arise; originate from.
Antonyms -  absorb, terminate.
Example -Hopefully, the fun memories of the weekend will emanate throughout the office and give all the employees a positive outlook this week.

3)Contentious (adjective)  (विवादास्पद ) -  kun-ten-shus
Meaning -  causing or likely to cause an argument
Synonyms -  controversial, debatable, disputed.
Antonyms -  pacifist, friendly, agrreable
Example -As a rule, I tend to avoid contentioustopics of conversation which might lead to arguments.

Meaning - to support an idea, belief, or principle
Synonyms- adopt, embrace; support/endorse.
Antonyms - discard. Reject, ignore
Example - Although the reviews were rather harsh, Riya had the grace to espouse the criticism and try to improve her performance.

Meaning - a silence . make (someone) be quiet or stop talking
Synonyms-  silence, quieten, stop talking.
Antonyms -  Noise, commotion

7)Unequivocal (adverb) ( स्पष्ट) -  un-ek-wiv-ok-al
Meaning - unquestionably clear
Synonyms - unambiguously, without any doubt, clearly/explicitly.
Antonyms - equivocal, ambiguous
Example -The teacher was impressed by the gifted student’s unequivocal explanation of the complex subject.

8)Condemn  (verb) (निंदा) -
Meaning - reprimand harshly
Synonyms - censure, criticize, castigate, attack
Antonyms -  admire, applaud , praise
Example - During his speech, the president took a moment to condemn those politicians who were not working to end the budget crisis.
