◆पांचवीं पंचवर्षीय योजना मूल रूप से 1974-79 की अवधि के लिए थी, लेकिन इसे एक वर्ष पूर्व ही 1978 में जनता सरकार ने समाप्त कर दिया था।
◆इस योजना के दो मुख्य उद्देश्य 'गरीबी उन्मूलन' और 'आत्मनिर्भरता प्राप्त करना' था।
◆इस योजना के दौरान 20-सूत्री कार्यक्रम (1975) लागू किया गया था।
◆इस योजना में कृषि को सर्वोच्च प्राथमिकता दी गई थी, तत्पश्चात उद्योग और खानों को।
◆प्रारंभ में, लक्षित वार्षिक वृद्धि दर 5. 5% पर निर्धारित की गई थी, लेकिन बाद में इसे घटाकर 4. 4% कर दिया गया था।
◆यद्यपि इस योजना के दौरान गरीबी और बेरोजगारी में कोई विशेष कमी नहीं हुई थी लेकिन इसके बावजूद भी योजना सफल रही थी।

◆The fifth five year plan was originally for the period of 1974-79 but it was terminated one year earlier by the Janata Government in 1978.
◆The two main objectives of the Plan were‘poverty eradication’ and ‘attainment of self-reliance’.
◆20-Point Programme (1975) had been implemented during the Plan.

◆Agriculture was given the top priority, and then came the number of industry and mines.
◆Initially, the targeted annual growth rate was set at 5. 5% but later on it was reduced to 4. 4%.
